Nature Genetics Publishes Scientific and Technological Achievements of Our University’s Institute of Dermatology for the Fifth Time

On October 18th, 2010, the famous international academic journal Nature Genetics published the Scientific and Technological Achievements of Our University’s Institute of Dermatology on line. It was a cooperative study about six new susceptibility genes of psoriasis conducted by Chinese and foreign scientists. This study was started by our university’s Institute of dermatology and participated jointly by more than 30 units at home and abroad, including University of Michigan, University of Washington, University of Kiel in Germany and Huashan Hospital Affiliated to Fudan University. The study was supported by State Key Program of National Natural Science of China, National 973 Project, National 863 Project and American NIH Project.
It is known that the research team of our university’s Institute of Dermatology led by Professor Zhang Xuejun discovered the susceptibility gene of psoriasis, LCE, for the first time at the beginning of 2009. It was conducted by Genome Wide Association Study(GWAS). Then they made a deep analysis of the data and cooperated with European and American research teams about psoriasis. They analyzed more than 30000 samples of different races, centers and discovered ERAP1、PTTG1、CSMD1、GJB2、SERPINB8 and ZNF816A, the six new susceptibility genes of psoriasis; they discovered the similarities and differences of the three genes: ZNF816A、ERAP1、GJB2 among Chinese, Americans and Germans, and discovered ERAP1 and ZNF816A are closely related to early onset of psoriasis and they also proposed the genetic heterogeneity of psoriasis.
