On March 10, 2018, a special activity named “More Trees, More Greenness” was held in Meichong Lake Ecological Park in North of Hefei. Nearly 40 international students from School of International Education (SIE) of Anhui Medical University (AHMU) together with the student-journalists from Hefei Market Star launched the activity to celebrate the 40th Tree-planting Day in China.
Under the guidance of the professional outdoor-training instructors, these grown-up university students, teenager junior students and younger pupils learnt to understand, trust and cooperate with each other. They successfully completed various tasks in spite of the differences in age, race and nationality. Every international student was then invited to join a Chinese family to plant the trees. Some people were busy shoveling the earth and then lowered the saplings, while others throwing the mud onto the saplings and watering them. The teaching and administrative staff of SIE were also invited to experience the tree-planting activity.
It is the third time that School of International Education has organized international students to hold Tree-planting Day activities, and it is also the first time for the School to cooperate with Hefei Market Star. The student-journalists participating in the activity are from different schools in Hefei, such as Amber Primary School, No.50 Middle School（west area）and No.2 Primary School on Linquan Road. This activity reinforces the teachers and students’ awareness of afforestation, environment protection and love of nature. At the same time, the international students seize the opportunity to communicate with the Chinese students and are truly integrated with the local families, which strengthens their sense of belongings, reminds them to protect the environment of Hefei and enhances the cultural exchange.
