The University Rises in ESI World Ranking Updated in January, 2019

Recently, Clarivate Analytics has released the latest ESI (Essential Science Indicators) data (January 2019). A total of 5,870 research institutions worldwide have entered the top 1% with an increase by 113 compared with the previous period. AHMU ranks 1,439th with a rise by 5 compared with the previous period. Its world ranking has increased by 62 during the whole year (ranking 1501st in January, 2018), which is remarkable progress. In this period, the university’s Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Molecular Biology and Genetics have still entered the top 1% of ESI Discipline Ranking. Among them, the world ranking of Clinical Medicine has increased by 2, Pharmacology and Toxicology by 5, and Molecular Biology and Genetics by 10.
In this period, a total of 251 higher institutions in Chinese mainland have entered the top 1% worldwide; among them, our university ranks 90th. The number of selected papers was 7,424 with an increase of 241 compared with the previous period. The citations of AHMU papers were 72,645 with an increase of 3,719 compared with the previous period. The average frequency of citations was 9.79 with an increase of 0.19 compared with the previous period. Thirty-nine papers were selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers and Hot Papers, the same with the number during the previous period (4 in and 4 out), including 19 in Clinical Medicine, 5 in Biology and Biochemistry, 4 in Molecular Biology and Genetics, 2 respectively in Chemistry, General Social Sciences, Psychiatry/Psychology, 1 respectively in Pharmacology and Toxicology, Neuroscience and Behavioral Science, Microbiology, Materials Science, Botany and Zoology. Among them, there is 1 ESI Hot Paper and Highly Cited Paper in Microbiology.
Essential Science Indicators (ESI) is the deep analysis database based on over 10,000,000 literature records included in 11000 kinds of global academic journals collected by the Web of Science (SCIE/SSCI). Currently, it has become one of the important evaluation index tools in the world to evaluate the international academic level and influence of universities, academic institutions and countries/regions; it is able to do long-term quantitative analysis of research performance and development trends. In ESI, all sciences are classified into 22 subjects, providing the regularly updated data of the recent 10 years or more. The current data are the updated data published on January 18, 2019, covering the period from January 1, 2008 to October 31, 2018, which is 10 years and 10 months.
