On the morning of June 29, 2020, the Science and Technology Award Conference of Anhui province was held in Hefei. Anhui Provincial Party Committee Secretary Li Jinbin, Governor Li Guoying and other provincial leaders attended the meeting. The decision of the Science and Technology Award of Anhui Province in 2019 was announced at the meeting. Following the two first prizes of Science and Technology Awards of Anhui Province in 2018, our university respectively won a first-prize of Anhui Nature Science Award and a first-prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award in 2019.
Professor Sun Guoping won the first prize of Provincial Nature Science Award. The research project “Research on the Anti-tumor Effect of Natural active Products Paeonol and Melatonin in Regulating Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress” is the first one in the world to propose that paeonol and melatonin can play an anti-tumor role by reversing the apoptosis resistance, autophagy activation and tumor immune escape induced by endoplasmic reticulum stress, and fill in the research on the anti-tumor effect of natural active products by regulating endoplasmic reticulum. This study provides a new approach for the development of new cancer treatment strategies targeting endoplasmic reticulum stress and screening of natural active products targeting endoplasmic reticulum stress.
Professor Wang Kai won the first prize of Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. The research project “Cognitive Brain Network Mechanism and Intervention of Depression and Its Clinical Application” of his team focuses on the analysis of the pathogenesis of depression, seeks new methods for diagnosis and treatment of depression, and carries out systematic basic research and clinical application. The team found a series of cognitive and imaging markers for the diagnosis and efficacy prediction of depression; it took the lead in developing and optimizing new antidepressant therapies, including VR-based emotional memory bias correction, transcranial direct-current stimulation and transcranial magnetic stimulation, which were successfully applied in clinical treatment and achieved good clinical efficacy and social benefits.
This is the fifth consecutive year that our university has won the first prize of Natural Science in Anhui Province, which fully demonstrates the strength and profound accumulation of our university in the field of scientific and technological innovation. At the same time, our university has won 10 second prizes and 11 third prizes of Anhui Provincial Science and Technology Awards in 2019, and the number of awards has also reached a new peak.
