On August 21, 2020, the 2019 Science and Technology Evaluation Metrics (STEM) was released in Beijing. STEM report includes a comprehensive ranking list of top 100 hospitals in China. The First Affiliated Hospital has jumped to the 67th in the report, 12 places higher than that of the previous year and it has been the only hospital in Anhui Province that has been consecutively shortlisted in the Top 100 list for many years, which shows its outstanding scientific and technological capability in Anhui Province.
Among the 31 disciplines on the list, 30 disciplines of the First Affiliated Hospital rank among the top 100 in China, with an increase of 3 compared with the previous year. Among them twenty-five disciplines rank first in Anhui province, with an increase of five over the previous year. The concept of STEM was first proposed in 2018 with its focus on the whole process of science and technology activities, and it also provides a comprehensive evaluation metrics for the whole process of innovation activities. STEM serves as the barometer for the national medical science and technology progress and it is regarded as the criterion for institutions to measure their own level of scientific and technological development and overall strength. Besides, it also embodies the institutions’ science and technology innovation and sustainable development capacity.
