On the morning of November 24th, 2022, AHMU held a meeting on reporting the meritorious deeds of model teachers combating the COVID-19 epidemic in the first academic lecture hall of the university library. This meeting was organized in order to study, publicize and implement in depth the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), widely publicize the touching deeds of teachers, students and medical staff working at the frontline in epidemic prevention and control, further bring the influence of role models around us into full play, and inspire the whole university to emulate those better than ourselves and forge ahead. Xie Ruijin, deputy secretary of CPC Party Committee of AHMU, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
“Our original intention is to serve patients to their satisfaction, and our greatest wish is to bring our team members home safe and sound!” When talking about this experience again, Zhou Cuimei, the honorary winner of the “Anhui Provincial May 1st Labour Medal”, also the head nurse of the second infection ward of the First Affiliated Hospital of AHMU, choked up several times and could not speak. In April this year, when Shanghai’s epidemic prevention and control work was at the severest situation, she withstood the pressure, gave full play to her professional skills and used tender nursing methods to form a warm medical world featured in Anhui spirit in the cold Fangcang shelter hospital. She won the gratitude and trust of the people of Shanghai, and led the medical team of our university to successfully complete the epidemic prevention and control task, fulfilling the promise that “we must bring our team members home safely”.
Speaking of the launching ceremony to Shanghai, Sun Li, deputy chief physician of the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of the First Affiliated Hospital of AHMU, was full of firmness and pride in her eyes. “When Gu Jiashan, secretary of CPC Party Committee of our university handed over the medical team flag to me, at that moment, I felt that the mission was honorable and the responsibility was heavy. The meaning of this flag is more than itself, but a heavy responsibility, which is the ardent expectation of our university. I made a determination on the quiet that I would live up to my mission and overcome all difficulties to complete the task with quality and quantity!” Sun Li won the title of “Most Beautiful Doctor” of the First Affiliated Hospital of AHMU. Looking back on the most memorable experience in her life, she said that although the epidemic prevention and control task was arduous and heavy, when she completed the task and bade farewell to the Fangcang shelter hospital where she had fought, she had mixed feelings, “We did our best, and we did not let the land or the people of Shanghai down!”
Wu Yile, winner of the honorary title of “Outstanding Individual of the Fight Against the Epidemic” of the Provincial Health Commission, official of the Infection Management Office of the Second Affiliated Hospital of AHMU, said “It was raining so hard that our clothes and shoes were soaked. The heavy rain also made the sampling work extremely difficult, but the team members rose to the challenge and did not flinch.” He said that it was the firm belief that “only if the epidemic recedes, we will return” and the university’s glorious tradition of “devotion to the country and the people; dedication to human health” that inspired him to overcome various difficulties and finally complete the task of assisting Shanghai. The work done by his medical team in Shanghai, which was called the “Green Boat Special Action Force” has also been highly recognized by the Shanghai Municipal Education and Health Committee of the CPC and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, and their deeds have been reported by Xinhuanet, China Youth Daily, Shanghai Education News, Anhui Network Broadcasting Corporation and other media many times.
Xie Ruijin pointed out in his speech that during the report, model teachers told their own stories in the fight against the epidemic for young students, and this is of great significance for teachers and students to further learn and understand the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, vigorously carry forward the great spirit of combating the COVID-19 epidemic, and continuously strengthen the leading role of role models. It is necessary to take this report meeting as an opportunity to transform the study and implementation of the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress into thinking and action in serving teachers and students and transform the spirit into a strong driving force to facilitate the construction of high-level medical universities.
