The Academic Ranking of World Universities 2018 (ARWU) was released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy on August 15, 2018, showing the world-leading 500 research universities and global top 500 universities with the greatest potential. AHMU ranks in the 701-800 section.
It is reported that 51 universities in mainland China have entered the list of world-leading 500 research universities. According to ARWU 2018, the list of global top 500 universities with the greatest potential, which was released during the same period, enumerates the universities that rank 501 to 1000 in the world. Seventy-two universities in mainland China have entered that list. These universities with great potential could quite probably enter the global top 500 in the coming years.
ARWU was first released in 2003 by the World-Class University Research Centre of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and was the first comprehensive ranking list of all the universities around the globe. The indicators of this ranking mainly include the number of alumni and teachers who have won Nobel prizes and Fields Medals, number of scientists who have been highly cited, number of papers published in Nature and Science, number of papers included in SCIE and SSCI, teachers’average academic performance, etc.
