On October 27, 2018, the 5th College Students Clinical Skills Contest of Anhui Medical University was held at Chaohu Clinical Medical College (Affiliated Chaohu Hospital). Vice president Yu Yongqiang went to watch the contest. A total of 80 contestants,making up 20 teams from 16 AHMU teaching institutions of clinical practice, participated in the contest.
With reference to the competition system of the national college students clinical skills contest, the contest had two sections: the preliminary round and the finals. The preliminaries adoptedstations, with a total of 8 stations for the contest; the finalsadopted tracks, with a total of 4 tracks for the contest. The assessment items for the contest included medical history-taking and physical examination, adult lumbar puncture, suture and knot tying, catheterization, tracheal intubation, chest puncture, posterior vaginal puncture and four step palpation, pediatric bone marrow aspiration, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other practical skills. The problems were set to imitate clinical scenarios, focusing on common diseases and prevalent diseases, which abided by the principle of “Reproducing Ward Scenario in the Contest”. The SPs used in the contest acted brilliantly to reproduce the real clinical scenarios, who were more helpful to the objective assessment of the humanistic communication skills and basic clinical manipulation skills of medical students.
Anhui Medical University has held the school-level college students clinical skills contests for five consecutive years since 2014. Based on the experience in the previous four contests, the contest this year was transmitted live for the first time to all AHMU students, who could watch the real-time contest via AHMU media and listened to the fascinating commentary delivered by young teachers of Chaohu Clinical Medical College (Affiliated Chaohu Hospital). Such arrangements not only improved the clinical professional skills of medical students in Anhui Medical University, but also promoted the clinical teaching capacities of the faculty of Chaohu Clinical Medical College (Affiliated Chaohu Hospital).
The contest was reported to be sponsored by the Academic Affairs Office of Anhui Medical University and organized by Chaohu Clinical Medical College (Affiliated Chaohu Hospital).
