Recently, Anhui Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism announced the list of inheritance bases of Intangible Cultural Heritage for the years from 2022 to 2024, AHMU (Anhui Medical University) being approved as the inheritance base of Huangmei Opera.
In recent years, AHMU has been upholding the principle of educating students with Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. With the approach of “Education in Five Aspects” and socialist core values, AHMU has been dedicated to cultivating talents with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique, aesthetics and labor education. Students are given the opportunity to practice the “new six arts”. As one of the activities of the “new six arts”, “Everyone Sings Huangmei Opera” aims at exploring the five steps of Huangmei Opera — appreciation, knowledge, learning, competition and performance. The campus culture of passing down the intangible heritage of Huangmei Opera has taken shape.
In order to better promote the program of “Everyone Sings Huangmei Opera”, AHMU established a workshop and signed up Ms. Wu Yaling as a guest professor. Wu, a national intangible cultural heritage inheritor and one of the “five golden flowers” of Huangmei Opera, and four top actors from Ahhui Huangmei Opera Theater worked together in a teaching team, which is composed of professional actors of Huangmei Opera and art education teachers from the university. Adhering to the principle of cooperation inside and outside the university, AHMU implements partnership with organizations, as well as regional and intercollegiate cooperation. Courses in theory and practice of Quyi of Huangmei Opera have been offered for students of 2020 and 2021, with 5449 participants. The Association of Huangmei Opera Enthusiast has been formed. Three Huangmei Opera art films were put on at the cinema on campus. And Huangmei Opera Culture Festivals and two special lectures on the art of Huangmei Opera were held in AHMU. Meanwhile, students got a good opportunity to appreciate the charm of Huangmei Opera.
According to the Measures for the Identification and Management of Inheritance Bases of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Anhui Province, 99 institutes were identified as the Inheritance Bases of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Anhui Province for the years from 2022 to 2024 after such procedures as recommendation, review and announcement by Anhui Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, among which 7 universities were selected.
