On October 22, 2022, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) concluded in Beijing. In reviewing and summarizing the work of the past five years and the changes of the extraordinary decade of China in the new era, the report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China mentioned that “we have pursued a more proactive strategy of opening-up. As a collaborative endeavor, the Belt and Road Initiative has been welcomed by the international community both as a public good and a cooperation platform”. The report also stressed the need to enhance the influence of Chinese civilization’s communication power, adhere to the Chinese cultural stance, tell the Chinese story, spread the Chinese voice, show a credible, lovely and respectable image of China, and promote Chinese culture to the world better.
The international students in our university also paid keen attention to this world-renowned event. They talked about the content of the report, and at the same time combined their experience of studying and living in our university to talk about changes, feelings and hopes, and expressed their good wishes for a more prosperous China, as well as their wish to become international medical talents who know China and are friendly to China, and cultural ambassadors between China and other countries.
PIYUSH PRATIK PRUSTI (Chinese name: Ping Shi), an Indian undergraduate student in Clinical Medicine (English-taught) of batch 2014, excitedly said, “It has been eight years since I came to China to study medicine in 2014. I have witnessed and benefited from the rapid development of China.”
“I left my homeland to come to China in 2017, and Chinese people are very warm and enthusiastic, and the media in China is very developed so that I can learn about the development of various parts of China from various media platforms.” MEKONNEN LUD HAILESEMAIT (Chinese name: Luo Di), an Ethiopian undergraduate student in Clinical Medicine (English-taught) of batch 2017, lamented, “As President Xi Jinping said in the report, China has adhered to the primacy of the people and life, protected people’s life safety and health to the maximum extent, and achieved significant positive results in coordinating COVID-19 prevention and control with economic and social development. Despite the impact of the epidemic, China has completed the fight against poverty and entered a well-off society as scheduled, reflecting the governing advantages of the Communist Party of China. I wish the great China to achieve the second century goal as soon as possible.”
CHRISTY GOH SYN LING (Chinese name: Wu Xinling), a Malaysian undergraduate student in Clinical Medicine (English-taught) of batch 2018, said, “My younger brother and I both study at Anhui Medical University, and coming to China is the best choice we make. I hope more countries can join the ‘Belt and Road’ and more students like me come to China to study and experience China’s quality educational resources and good policy of opening up to the outside world.”
A Jamaican undergraduate student in Clinical Medicine (English-taught) of batch 2017, BOWEN DONIEL ALANZO (Chinese name: Bao Wen), who is interning at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University, said that in the five years he has been living and studying in China, what he loves most is the profound traditional culture of China: “The 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has closed and the CPC has led its people to a new goal. I sincerely hope that this country with a long history will become more prosperous and strong, and continue to spread its long-standing Chinese culture around the world, and I will actively promote the rich and colorful Chinese culture I have learned to my compatriots.”
BRET CAMBONIE DEBORAH LORIE (Chinese name: Zhang Bohan), a French undergraduate student in Clinical Medicine (English-taught) of batch 2019, said that the greatest feeling she got from witnessing China’s development and changes is “new”: “China is developing rapidly, and in an idiom, it is ‘changing day by day’. In China, you can use your phones to meet all kinds of needs in life — taking a taxi, shopping, registering, buying medicine, booking tickets, finding all kinds of information ..., which are unimaginable in my country. During my study in China, I learned that there is a term called ‘Chinese dream’, which refers to the dream of great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The report mentioned the need to promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation in a comprehensive manner with Chinese-style modernization. I hope I can see China realize this dream and wish China better and better.”
