From November 12 to 14, 2024, the second finalization meeting for the 9th-batch planned textbook of the national colleges and universities Fundamentals of Toxicology (8th Edition), an essential component of the curriculum for preventive medicine programs in higher education, was successfully held in Hefei. The meeting was organized by the People’s Medical Publishing House and hosted by the School of Public Health of Anhui Medical University. Professor Weng Jianping, President of Anhui Medical University, participated in the opening ceremony and delivered a welcoming address.
In his remarks, Professor Weng extended cordial greetings to the assembled experts and scholars, followed by a comprehensive introduction to the historical evolution of Anhui Medical University. He underscored the university’s pivotal role as the birthplace of higher medical education within Anhui Province and highlighted its inclusion in 2022 among the Ministry of Education’s High-Level Public Health Schools Construction Initiative—a milestone achievement in the institution’s development. Professor Weng stressed the vital role of exemplary textbooks in cultivating outstanding public health professionals to meet contemporary societal needs. He called upon all editorial board members to uphold the guiding principle of prioritizing public health, emphasize the synthesis and advancement of academic knowledge, and enhance collaborative efforts to ensure that Fundamentals of Toxicology becomes a high-caliber academic resource.
During the session, Professor Chen Wen from Sun Yat-sen University, chief editor of the print edition, and Professor Pi Jingbo, from China Medical University, chief editor of the digital edition, delivered comprehensive introductions on the development process and current progress of the work, and provided explicit guidelines for addressing identified issues and refining the content for finalization. Chapter coordinators meticulously presented their respective sections, articulating specific challenges and proposed revisions while thoughtfully addressing feedback received during the peer review process.
